I drive a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu LS. I put it in park and pressed the accelerator until my RPMs hit 4, then I pressed a little harder and it began fluctuating between 3 and 4. I live in the Midwest and it has been extremely cold and snowy.

What is the actual problem with the accelerator system on all those new Toyotas recently recalled? Is the accelerator connected via the traditional cable, or are Toyotas affected by the recall throttle-by-wire vehicles?
